JURY DUTY

Here is where I was last week and here is where I'll be this week.

I've been asked if it is an interesting trial. A couple of interesting things have happened, but I'm not allowed to talk about them... yet. I've been asked what the jury talks about before final deliberations begin--since we can't talk about the testimony until all the evidence is presented.

I'm on a jury of 12 women and 3 men. (Three alternates.) Mostly, the discussion has been about shoes. Comparing what the plaintiff, defendant, and witnesses are wearing, where they bought them and if they are painful to wear, etc.

Most of the testimony is repetitive. Facts. Figures. Timeline photos. Interesting? Well, it's a little like watching grass grow during a drought. Next time I'm summoned I think I'll schedule an appendectomy or something...

Have you done your civic duty and served on a Jury? Was it an interesting trial? Did it last two weeks or longer? Were you sequestered?

  1. I've never been on a jury, but I'm sure my time is coming! Maybe if I keep moving from one county to the next, they won't be able to catch up with me. (HAHAHAHA) I hope the shoes the attorneys and such are wearing aren't as crazy high-heeled as the ones in the pictures!

    1. Both attorneys are men. If they had worn the above shoes, I think it might have livened up things a bit!

  2. I hesitate to say this, but I’ve not been called – yet! I do hope it goes on that way as I can think of nothing worse. I loved the shoes and if I ever get sequestered, I will take a leaf out of your book and spend my time shoe gazing.

    1. Shoe gazing beats counting ceiling tiles! If called, I hope you are assigned to a quick, one day, trial.

  3. I'm so sorry. I've been summoned before. In fact, I'm on my free year (well, I've got 8 more months) after having been summoned. I did end up on one jury, but that trial lasted two days. That included voire dire.

    1. I can't believe this one is scheduled to go on for two weeks or longer. I told the bailiff I didn't understand what's taking so long. I've watched a lot of Law and Order TV and those trials are over in less than an hour!

  4. I was on a jury once. Lasted just the day (being picked and watching the trial). It was kind of interesting to see an actual trial, but boring, too (a lot of waiting). It was about a guy who stole the aluminum siding from a house. The nosey neighbor (and I could tell she was that) had seen him do it. We just had to determine if the amount stolen was more than some dollar figure. We determined it had.
